    You’ve probably heard a thing or two about Cannabidiol (CBD), so what’s CBG about?

    However, before you even talk about CBD, it would be unfair to fail to mention the precursor to all other cannabis phytocannabinoids – Cannabigerol (CBG).

    What is CBG?

    When a cannabis plant is small, Cannabigerolic acid (CBGa) develops first and later gets converted into Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCa), Cannabidiolic acid (CBDa), Cannabichromenic acid (CBCa), and many others.

    As time goes by, heat and chemical reactions cause the conversion of these acidic forms to the respective non-acidic cannabinoids.

    Cannabigerol is the non-acidic form of CBGa. When the cannabis plant fully matures, the amount of CBG is mostly less than 1%.

    This is because most of the CBGa has already been converted to the other acidic forms of cannabinoids, leaving just traces of the CBG.

    CBG, just like CBD, is a non-psychoactive compound. This means the user can’t get high, unlike if they consumed THC.

    Cannabigerol is abundantly found in low THC and high CBD strains such as industrial hemp.

    So, why is CBG the new CBD? Let’s see two of the critical reasons.

    1.  Like CBD, CBG is non-intoxicating

    There is no worry about failing drug tests when you take a product rich in CBG, as it doesn’t get the user high.

    We want to insist that THC is the only cannabis phytocannabinoid responsible for getting the user mind-boggled.

    The same way you don’t have to worry about taking CBD and getting intoxicated is the same as CBG.

    2.  A plethora of wellness and beauty benefits

    Can I get high from CBD?

    No. All our products are extracted from mature hemp plants. There is no THC in any of our products.

    Can I take too much CBD?

    Short answer is no. Nobody could afford the amount of CBD you’d need to ingest before doing liver damage. Like everything in life, too much of anything is a bad thing!

    A recently distributed wholesale catalog for Calyx Wellness CBD products has graced my inbox. Contents include stunning re-brand and loads of new products!

    Calyx Wellness is a Canadian CBD company with lab certified CBD products. They manufacture a variety of CBD tinctures, lotions, capsules and pet products. The Calyx brand is phenomenal and I’m very pleased to bring you their entire 2020 catalog at the best prices on the web.

    Calyx Wellness has done a complete overhaul of their product packaging and branding. Their previous packaging was already superb, but in order to stand out in the competitive CBD business, each brand must carve out a specific niche in which to cater. In this case, Calyx Wellness has opted for soft tones, living elements, serif fonts, and comfort imagery; perfect for the sometimes confusing CBD industry. This is subset of design leverages the buying power of women in cosmetic markets, while simultaneously capturing the premium customers who focus on quality. They’re doing a great job, now please allow me to break down the new look.

    CBD Oil Tincture Heal+ 2,000mg

    Straight away you’ll notice the newly minted box. There are some pretty big changes here:

    • Box materials have changed from a glossy thin cardboard to a thick textured minimally processed pulp complete with visible fibers.
    • Foiling is still present for the logo on the top of the box.
    • New labeling features both English and French for Quebec markets.
    • More detailed and legible ingredients on the back.
    • We finally have a bar-code and SKU for all their products (found on the bottom).
    • Cool little details include printed imagery on the inside of the box and a note from the founder on the inside of the top flap.

    There are some minor changing to the labeling attached to all products.

    • All products still come in dark amber glass (important to keep tinctures out of direct light), with a safety seal.
    • Previous label was clear with white text. While stunning in mockups, often looked a bit wonky because of air bubbles or imperfections in application.
    • The new label material follows the same design ethos as the box, a thick minimally processed textured paper, very legible.
    • All product details also bilingual both English and French.

    So the new look is absolutely incredible and I’m very proud of the good people of Calyx Wellness for continually setting new standards in the Canadian CBD market. That being said, I’ve also received the latest lab tests from an independent source. I’m happy to report that all Calyx Wellness sources their CBD from mature organic hemp stalks grown right here in Canada. The lab report shows that the crystalline added is 99.9% pure CBD with less than 0.01% THC. This is important. Despite popular belief, many Canadians are not interested in getting high while trying to treat themselves. That being said, you can pass any drug test while using any of their products.

    There are a boatload of new offerings from Calyx Wellness, mainly in the pet category but with some awesome new items being rumored (more on that later).

    In the previous product catalog, Calyx Wellness had only 1 option for pets, Relief 250mg CBD unflavoured tincture made with cod liver oil.     Calyx Wellness Reviews: Direct from Customers.

    My experience with Calyx Wellness has been interesting and unforeseen. I have received many first hand Calyx Wellness reviews. Before opening this online retail space, I owned a brick and mortar health food store in Burlington Ontario which opened in 1985. Our store catered to the local community of seniors and new families for over 35 years. The shop was made popular by selling both bulk food (scoop your own) and supplements. Our supplement section was very thorough and our staff incredibly knowledgeable.

    During Christmas of 2018, many of our customers were asking if we could get CBD into our store. The hype of Canadian legalization was in full effect. I spent a long time looking for products that would be interesting to our customers. Unfortunately that was a lot harder than expected at the time. Yes there were DIY options available, but the wholesalers were less than reputable.

    At that time, one of our staff mentioned a brand that she’d seen refereed to at her veterinarian clinic. The doctor prescribed her aging dog some CBD to help him get through the tough days. This doctor suggested that she visit Calyx Wellness Centre. She visited that store and found a stunning boutique style shop selling high quality, lab tested CBD products. The store was clean, the products were gorgeous and there was a lineup at the register!

    She returned from her trip and told me all about it, I was intrigued.

    There’s something to be said about a product range that is fully flushed out and offers something for everyone. Their products range from tinctures to capsules, and even pet options with yummy cod liver oil!

    I don’t think I was ready for what came next.

    I called their main phone and asked for a sales person, within minutes I had placed my first order. The first order was 2 of each product. We put it on our shelf at the entrance of the store and hoped that the chatter would live up to the hype. Thankfully, it did!

    Within 2 days I was placing my second order, this time adding much more inventory, the testing phase was officially over. The demand was incredible, and people kept returning to restock. The speed at which CBD moved off our shelves was rivaled only by Vitamin C and Magnesium. It was amazing for business and our customers were so happy they could visit their local health food store and get information from our staff that they could trust.

    As customers took home their first foray into CBD, they began returning with stories. I’ll quickly cover a few reviews that made me smile. Below are some Calyx Wellness Reviews.

    • A regular customer and good friend asked if the Heal+ 2000mg would help his wife get a full nights sleep. She suffered from a multitude of degenerative issues that made sleeping without pain a distant memory. Fast forward 2 weeks when the husband returns. He reports that not only can she sleep through the night, her first night was a whopping 20 hours (I think she was very behind on sleep). The dose was a little high, but the relief was obvious. She believes around 25mg was the right dose for her, 30 minutes before bed time.
    • A sweet old lady in her mid 80’s asked our staff about pain medicine for her dog. Her Maltese was aging and no longer wanted to get our of bed. Getting her to eat was a chore, and she had no energy for walks. We suggested the Relief 250mg for Pets, made with cod liver oil. She took it home and we hoped for the best. Fast forward 2 weeks and the customer returned. She hugged and praised our staff member for the suggestion because (and I quote) “She’s like a puppy again!”.     • Enter, business man. A regular customer at our store, always superbly dressed visits and sees we have CBD on the shelf. Intrigued, he wonders if it will help him get a full night sleep. Without hesitation he buys the Heal 1000mg tincture. He comes back the next day full of energy, happy to report that he got a full 8 hours sleep and he had forgotten how good it feels. He found 25mg before bed was just right.
    • A recently retired CN Train worker visits our store looking for Arthritis relief. His hands and knuckles are incredibly swollen and aching. He’s heard that CBD might help his condition, so he picks up the Heal+ 2000mg tincture. A few days later he visits with good news! Mobility in his hands has improved dramatically and the nagging ache has stopped completely. He’s headed to Newfoundland for 6 months so he stocks up and buys 5 bottles, plus a Smooth+ 1200mg cream.     Canadian Government Pledges $24.5 Million for Medical Cannabis Research

    Canada made history recently when they introduced the full legalization of cannabis for recreational purposes. So far, legalization in Canada is going well and money is being plowed into more than 20 different research initiatives.

    Canada became the second country in the world, after Uruguay, to officially legalize cannabis back in 2018. Medicinal cannabis was legalized there back in 2001, The Federal Cannabis Act took effect on October 17, 2018, making cannabis legal for any Canadian citizen living in Canada. This includes the “cultivation, possession, acquisition, and consumption of cannabis and its by-products,” according to the letter of the law.

    Legalization so far is going smoothly in Canada, and people aren’t killing each other on the streets due to cannabis-induced psychosis. You would be forgiven for thinking as much after the way this herb has been suppressed and oppressed for so many decades. In any event, the tides are now turning, and the point is; it’s going well.

    Black market sales of cannabis are soon to be a thing of the past, as dispensaries and medical facilities have everything Canadians need. The cannabis people are using, as well as things like CBD flowers, are regulated and checked before they’re sold; a far cry from pocketing a baggy of questionable quality buds in a parking lot somewhere. A year hasn’t even passed since legalization, and the even better news is that the Canadian government is already giving something back.

    According to a recent Parksville Qualicum Beach News report, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research announced a $24.5 million investment into medical cannabis research. The funding is earmarked for 26 different projects throughout Canada, looking at cannabis for medicinal purposes and specifically at CBD oil. According to the organization, the money “will support research teams that will explore the therapeutic potential of cannabis in areas such as cancer, chronic pain, and neurodevelopment.”

    The new research initiative comes not from private funders, but from the highest echelons of the Canadian government. Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Canada’s minister of health, spoke about the funding. “We are investing in research to provide the evidence needed to maintain policies for cannabis use that protect the health and safety of Canadians,” she said. “The projects announced today will result in new information on the health effects of cannabis, which will be valuable to governments, public health professionals, health care providers, and all Canadians.”

    At the same time, as the legal cannabis locomotive moves fast in Canada, funds have also been designated for public awareness projects in Alberta, as well as money from the University of Calgary. Canadians want students and young adults to understand cannabis and to know about its potential dangers. Bill Blair, the minister of border security and organized crime reduction, also spoke to reporters according to the same report.

    “We have put in place a strict regulatory framework for cannabis that aims to keep cannabis out of the hands of youth and the profits out of the hands of criminals,” said Blair. “This research will make an important contribution as we continue to roll out the regulatory framework. We must continue to ensure that prevention, harm reduction, and education remain at the forefront of these efforts.”

    But what about Canadian citizens who have previous convictions for cannabis possession which was a criminal charge at the time? A bill was introduced in March to deal with this issue and pardons were given to these people, with their criminal records being erased.

    There’s no question that cannabis legalization is going well in Canada so far. It remains to be seen what the long-term picture will look like, especially after medical research is carried out and more is understood about this once forbidden herb.
